PLAY. THIS IS WLWT NEWS FIVE LEADING THE WAY WITH BREAKING NEWS. A FORMER CINCINNATI CITY COUNCIL MEMBER WHO PLEADED GUILTY ALREADY TO TAKING BRIBES WILL NOW SPEND THE NEXT TWO YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON. THANKS FOR JOINING US AT 5:00. I’M SHEREE PAOLELLO AND I’M MIKE DARDIS. BIG NEWS DAY HERE. JEFF PASTOR SPENDING THE AFTERNOON IN FEDERAL COURT IN CINCINNATI. AND SO DID WLWT NEWS FIVE’S TODD --. HE’S LIVE DOWNTOWN WITH PASTOR SENTENCE. HI, TODD. YEAH, MIKE AND SHERRY. THAT SENTENCE GIVEN JUST ABOUT AN HOUR AGO. THE 40 YEAR OLD PASTOR HAD HOPED THAT US DISTRICT JUDGE MATTHEW MCFARLAND WOULD SENTENCE HIM TO ONE YEAR IN PRISON, BUT INSTEAD, BASED ON A PLEA AGREEMENT, MCFARLAND SENTENCED PASTOR TO 24 MONTHS IN FEDERAL PRISON PLUS THREE YEARS OF SUPERVISED RELEASE WHEN HE GETS OUT. SO TWO YEARS IN PRISON. FOR PASTOR. IT WAS IN JUNE WHEN THAT PASTOR ADMITTED HE TOOK BRIBES FROM UNDERCOVER AGENTS POSING AS PROPERTY INVESTORS IN EXCHANGE FOR VOTES INVOLVING CITY PROJECTS. PASTOR WAS ARRESTED BACK IN 2020, THE SAME YEAR, FORMER COUNCIL MEMBERS P.G. SITTENFELD AND TAMAYA DENNARD WERE CHARGED WITH SIMILAR CRIMES. DURING TODAY’S HEARING, PASTOR’S ATTORNEY ARGUED FOR HER CLIENT TO GET LESS THAN SITTENFELD’S 16 MONTH SENTENCE AND LESS THAN DENNARD’S 18 MONTH SENTENCE. BUT MCFARLAND SAID PASTOR’S MISDEEDS WERE WORSE. ESPECIALLY SINCE HE UTILIZED A SO-CALLED MIDDLEMAN TO SANITIZE ILL GOTTEN CASH. NOW, PASTOR DID ACCEPT FULL RESPONSIBILITY BEFORE HEARING MCFARLAND SAY THAT WANT YOU TO LISTEN NOW TO WHAT HE HAD TO SAY AS HE LEFT THE FEDERAL COURTHOUSE LATE THIS AFTERNOON. CARE TO SAY ANYTHING? JEFF? YEAH. SENTENCE. WHAT DO YOU MAKE OF WHAT THE JUDGE DECIDED? ANY COMMENT AT ALL? WHAT DO YOU SAY TO THE PEOPLE OF CINCINNATI? I APOLOGIZE. AND THE. SECOND APOLOGY THAT PASTOR MADE TODAY, AGAIN, HE TOOK FULL RESPONSIBILITY DURING TODAY’S HEARING. JUDGE MCFARLAND DID LET PASTOR LEAVE THE COURTHOUSE TODAY. HE’S GIVING HIM 30 DAYS TO HEAD HOME AND GET HIS AFFAIRS IN ORDER. MCFARLAND SAID HE’S FINE WITH PASTOR’S REQUEST TO SERVE THE TWO YEAR PRISON SENTENCE AT A FEDERAL PRISON IN ASHLAND, KENTUCKY. THAT’S IN NORTHEASTERN KENTUCKY, ABOUT 2.5 HOURS AWAY. BUT OF COURSE, PASTOR’S FINAL DESTINATION WILL BE UP TO THE US BUREAU OF PRISONS FOR NOW, REPORTING LIVE DOWNTOWN TODD -- WLWT NEWS FIVE. HEY, TODD. TODAY’S HEARING LASTED ABOUT THREE HOURS. THAT’S A LOT OF TALKING. WHO DID MOST OF IT? WELL, I CAN TELL YOU, MIKE, PASTOR’S A COURT APPOINTED ATTORNEY. PUBLIC DEFENDER KAREN SEVIER SPENT A LOT OF TIME TRYING TO CONVINCE JUDGE MCFARLANE THAT PASTOR’S LIFE STORY PLAYED A BIG ROLE IN HIS FALL FROM GRACE. SHE SAID PASTOR SUFFERED A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF CHILDHOOD TRAUMA WHILE GROWING UP IN THE WEST END, AND SUCCUMBED TO THE LURE OF ILLICIT MONEY BECAUSE HE WAS WORRIED ABOUT. HIS FAMILY’S FINANCES. MCFARLAND SAID HE TOOK ALL THAT INTO CONSIDERATION, BUT THEN ADDED, QUOTE, OUR PASTOR’S CONDUCT WAS, QUOTE, APPALLING. MIKE. ALL RIGHT. TODD -- DOWNTOWN RIGHT NOW. BIG STORY TODAY. THANKS SO MUCH FOR EXPLAINING EVERYTHING. TODD, APPRECIATE THAT. ALSO, MORE MILD DAYS AHEAD. RAIN CHANCES, THOUGH COULD IMPACT THE HOLIDAY PLANS. WE’RE TALKING IN CHRISTMAS EVE AND CHRISTMAS DAY. IT’S ALWAYS ABOUT TIMING AND NOBODY WANTS TO WET RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER. CHIEF METEOROLOGIST KEVIN ROBINSON SHOWS US WHEN THOSE FIRST SPRINKLES ARRIVE. HERE IN CINCINNATI’S MOST ACCURATE FORECAST. HI, KEVIN. HEY, GUYS. IT WILL BE ANOTHER 24 HOURS BEFORE WE SEE ANY SPRINKLES AROUND HERE. SO THAT MEANS WE’VE GOT A DRY EVENING IN STORE. AND IT SHOULD BE A NICE ONE TOO. TEMPERATURES TODAY MANAGED TO CLIMB UP RIGHT ON THE DOORSTEP OF 50, DESPITE ALL THE CLOUD COVER WE HAD DRIFTING OVERHEAD, AND IT’S STILL GOING TO BE A PRETTY NICE EVENING AND ONE OF THOSE EVENINGS WHERE IT DOESN’T GET CHILLY TOO FAST OR TOO MUCH IN A HURRY FOR US. YES, WE’RE STILL PREDICTING TEMPERATURES TO GET CLOSE TO 60 BEFORE CHRISTMAS. AND YES, RAIN. CHANCES ARE STILL THE SAME FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SATURDAY, AND THEN AGAIN MAYBE ON CHRISTMAS DAY. AND I CAN’T RULE OUT AT SOME POINT CHRISTMAS DAY NIGHT, MAYBE SOME THUNDER. WE’RE GOING TO TALK MORE ABOUT THAT COMING. UP HERE IN JUST A MOMENT, BUT NOT A BAD EVENING. GETTING CHILLY. TEMPERATURES WILL TUMB
