Planning to get a strawberry blonde hair dye at home? Here are some top hair color brands for you. From light to dark and temporary to semi-permanent, you’ll find all types of dyes here.
Strawberry blonde is a reddish blonde shade of color that many people often confuse with that of ginger. However, this hair color has a tint of red and ginger on the other hand is a more vibrant shade. Here are some top dyes to get this hair dye at home!
Best Strawberry Blonde Hair Dyes | Best For | Shade |
Rainbow Research Henna Hair Color | All hair types | Persian Strawberry Blonde |
Revlon Colorsilk Permanent Hair Color | Fine hair | 055 Light Reddish Brown |
Clairol Nice’n Easy Permanent Hair Dye | Normal and chemically treated hair | 8R Medium Reddish Blonde |
L’Oreal Paris Superior Preference Permanent Hair Color | Norma hair | 8RB Medium Rose Blonde |
Schwarzkopf Got2b Metallic Permanent Hair Color | Normal hair dye | M97 Gilded Rose |
Out of all of these however, my favorite and the best strawberry blonde hair color has to be the Clairol Nice’n Easy Permanent Hair Dye. It is a long lasting hair dye that stays 12-24 weeks on your hair despite being ammonia-free. It gives a vibrant reddish blonde shade and if you have very light blonde or light brown hair you won't even need to bleach hair first. It's also very easy to apply.

Rainbow Research Henna Hair Color
Dye Type: Permanent
Well, this was my very first try at a henna hair dye and I must admit that I was apprehensive especially as the top Youtube hair guru Brad Mondo was so skeptical about henna.
I was also apprehensive about a few things like the smell it would leave and the final result of course. Since my hair is a natural dark brown, I had bleached it to a lighter blonde in order to get the right strawberry blonde shade.
So, setting aside all my apprehensions, I made my very first try at using henna hair dye and I have to say that it worked super well on my hair!
I loved that it was completely organic, which means it had no harsh chemicals like ammonia or parabens. That was definitely a plus for me. Also, the smell of the henna was not strong and smelt subtle.
I found it easy to use and it also didn’t stain my skin either. I had to wash my hair twice before I could get all the henna out.
The color looked vibrant and fresh for around 5 to 6 weeks even though it started fading very gradually during that time.
The downside? The color was gone almost instantly when I used a clarifying shampoo. So this 5-6 staying period will only last if you maintain the color well.
Pros:
- Doesn’t contain ammonia or parabens and is therefore gentle on the hair.
- Uses completely organic ingredients so it’s good for sensitive skin
- Doesn’t stain the skin during application.
- Easy to use with simple instructions as there’s no developer mixing required
- Color fades very gradually in the course of 5 to 6 weeks.
Cons:
- Required two washes for the henna to get washed out completely.
My ratings:
- Dyeing effect of pigments: 4.2/5
- Ingredients: 5/5
- Staying power: 3.5/5

Revlon Colorsilk Permanent Hair Color
Dye Type: Permanent
Three things that drew me towards buying this product is that it was ammonia free, also it would be my very first try at a gel-based hair dye and thirdly, it was Revlon, one of the most reputed hair dye brands in the world. So, I went in for it.
Did it live up to my expectations? Well, it for sure did! It was super easy to use as it had simple instructions and it made my hair have a salon finish.
My hair looked nice and vibrant, but since I hadn’t dyed or bleached my naturally brown hair to a very light shade, the strawberry blonde color turned out slightly darker, because of my natural hair color.
So, for those with darker hair shades, I would recommend you dye or bleach your hair to a light shade in order to get the best results.
Yes, even with the developer I’d say this hair dye is just no good on dark hair unless bleached to at least 3-4 levels.
Another thing I didn’t like about this product is that even though it is a permanent hair dye, to retain the vibrancy, I had to do a touch up after around 4 weeks.
Pros:
- Doesn’t contain ammonia or parabens and is therefore gentle on the hair.
- Affordable drugstore prices
- The post-use hair conditioning treatment gives the hair a salon finish.
Cons:
- Works best on lighter hair shades despite the use of developer
- Requires a touch-up after 4 weeks even though it claims to be a “permanent” dye
My ratings:
- Dyeing effect of pigments: 4/5
- Ingredients: 4.8/5
- Staying power: 3.8/5

Clairol Nice’n Easy Permanent Hair Dye
Dye Type: Permanent
Clairol has been a brand I have tried before and liked. That’s why I decided to go in for the same brand again.
The reason I love this brand is because it is easy to use and comes with simple instructions.
Since my hair is chemically-treated, this brand caters exactly to my hair needs. It worked well and gave my hair the desired color.
But I had previously dyed my hair to a light blonde in order to get the perfect strawberry blonde shade.
However, we tried a test on one of our brunette haired editors and guess what? The color actually showed up!
Well, it won’t show up as strawberry blonde exactly. It’ll fade to a coppery color on dark hair unless bleached. But hey, it was better than Revlon at least.
It is a permanent hair dye and lasted on my hair for almost 8 weeks before it began to fade away. Again, one more thing it scored over Revlon.
This product did contain ammonium hydroxide, a form of ammonia, but it thankfully wasn’t too harsh on my hair.
There is a color activator so you should know that you’ll be lightening hair when applying this dye - bleach or no bleach.
Pros:
- Easy to use with simple instructions.
- Works well on dark hair although the exact strawberry shade won’t show up
- Color remains vibrant for upto 8 weeks if taken care of well
Cons:
- Contains ammonium hydroxide in the “color activator” so it can be a bit harsh on sensitive scalps (patch test recommended!)
My ratings:
- Dyeing effect of pigments: 4.2/5
- Ingredients: 3.8/5
- Staying power: 4/5

L’Oreal Paris Superior Preference Permanent Hair Color
Dye Type: Permanent
I was quite drawn towards the fade-defying promise this product offered. So, I bought it and really liked the way my final hair color turned out. The color lasted on my hair around 8 weeks before it began to fade away.
Since this product only lifts upto 3 levels from one’s natural hair color, I had to bleach my naturally brown hair to a light blonde before I dyed my hair strawberry blonde.
I found this product super easy to use and the dyeing process was completed within just 35 minutes after application.
But one thing that I really didn’t like about this product is that it did contain ammonia and I found that the smell was very strong.
Which is a huge bummer considering LÓreal is one of the better known hair dye brands.
Pros:
- This hair dye can show up swell on even dark brunette hair
- The color remains vibrant for upto 8 weeks.
- Dyes the hair within 35 minutes of application.
Cons:
- Works best on lighter hair shades (if you want exact strawberry blonde shade that is)
- Has a strong smell of ammonia.
My ratings:
- Dyeing effect of pigments: 4.2/5
- Ingredients: 3.5/5
- Staying power: 4.2/5
Schwarzkopf Got2b Metallic Permanent Hair Color
Dye Type: Permanent
What I really liked about this product is that after I used it on my previously bleached light blonde hair, it gave my hair a lovely strawberry blonde shade which looked very vibrant and gave my hair a metallic look.
So, if any of you have darker hair shades, I would definitely not recommend the use of this product unless or until your hair has been bleached or dyed to a lighter shade.
But something I didn’t like was that the color did bleed after the first couple of washes, but to my good luck, the shade still looked fairly good even after the bleed.
I was also lucky enough that the color didn’t stain my skin or my clothes.
Another aspect I was slightly vary about is that the product doesn’t mention whether it contains ammonia or not.
Also, I would like to warn you that those with longer hair lengths, may be required to use two boxes in order to complete the application process.
The quantity is really less especially if you look at the prices and quantity offered by Revlon and Clairol.
Pros:
- Makes the hair look vibrant as pigment is very strong
- Gives the hair a metallic sheen thanks to the conditioner
Cons:
- Color bleeds out in the first couple of hair washes.
- Works best on lighter hair shades.
My ratings:
- Dyeing effect of pigments: 4.2/5
- Ingredients: 3.5/5
- Staying power: 4/5
Clairol Nice' n Easy Crème Hair Dye, Golden Auburn
As someone who loves experimenting with different hair colors, I was excited to try out this particular shade from Clairol as it was a richer strawberry blonde than the others on the list.
The application process was surprisingly straightforward. The kit includes everything you need, from the colorant and developer to the conditioner.
The instructions were clear, and I appreciated the inclusion of gloves to make the process mess-free. The cream formula was easy to mix and apply, and I didn't experience any strong or unpleasant odors during the process.
The color payoff was fantastic. The Golden Auburn shade turned out exactly as I had hoped – a vibrant, warm strawberry blonde with beautiful golden undertones. It gave my hair a lovely multidimensional look that catches the light in a stunning way.
After dyeing, my hair felt surprisingly soft and healthy. I credit this to the included conditioner, which left my hair feeling silky and nourished. It's been a few weeks now, and the color has held up well without excessive fading.
Pros:
- Straightforward application process with clear instructions.
- Beautiful color payoff with vibrant and multidimensional results.
- Included conditioner left my hair feeling soft and nourished.
- The color has held up well over time.
- No strong or unpleasant odors during the dyeing process.
Cons:
- The gloves included in the kit were a bit flimsy and could be of better quality.
My ratings:
- Dyeing effect of pigments: 4.2/5
- Ingredients: 4/5
- Staying power: 4.5/5

How to choose the the top strawberry blonde hair dyes?
I am a huge fan of dyed hair and I love trying out and experimenting with different hair colors.
That’s how I began testing products and reviewing them. I choose the products based on three parameters.
Here are the parameters I tested these products on:
Dyeing effect of pigments: Since I have naturally brown hair, I look for dyes that are powerful and test to see how well they dye my hair.
Ingredients: My first option is always choosing products without any harsh chemicals like ammonia and parabens. The reason is to avoid my hair from getting any further damaged.
Staying power: This parameter tests how long the dye retains itself on my hair without fading away
